About HVACPool

An independent reference for heating, ventilation and air conditioning — built so that people spending thousands on equipment can understand what they are buying first.

Why This Site Exists

HVAC is one of the largest purchases most households make, and one of the least transparent. A homeowner replacing a furnace or an air conditioner is typically asked to choose between options they have no way of evaluating, using terms nobody has explained, on a timeline set by a system that has already failed. The result is predictable: people buy on price or on whichever brand the installer stocks, and often end up with equipment that is the wrong size for the building.

HVACPool exists to close that gap. We publish plain explanations of how each type of system works, what the efficiency ratings actually measure, how capacity is properly calculated, and where the real trade-offs sit between one approach and another. The goal is not to replace your contractor. It is to make sure you can hold a useful conversation with them.

What We Publish

An Equipment Catalogue

Eighteen equipment categories across the three pillars, broken into subcategories and listed with the specifications that actually differentiate them — capacity, efficiency rating, staging and fuel type. Structured so you can compare like with like.

Buying and Sizing Guides

Long-form guides covering sizing, efficiency, running costs, installation expectations, maintenance and the head-to-head comparisons buyers get stuck on. Each one is written to answer a question someone is actually asking before they spend money.

Reference Material

A glossary of the terminology that appears on every quote, and a directory of the manufacturers and suppliers who make and distribute this equipment — with contact routes and what each company actually specialises in.

What We Are Not

Being clear about this matters more than any claim we could make about ourselves.

How We Handle Accuracy

Specifications and efficiency figures on this site are traced to published sources. Where a number is a typical range for a class of equipment rather than a certified rating for a specific model, we label it as such on the page. Certified performance should always be confirmed in the AHRI Directory for heating and cooling equipment, or the HVI Directory for ventilation products, because ratings apply to matched systems rather than to individual units.

When we get something wrong, we correct it and note that we did. Our editorial policy explains how that process works and gives you an address to report an error to.

Who Is Behind It

HVACPool is published by a small editorial team rather than a large newsroom. Our authors page sets out who writes and reviews the material here, what their background is, and — just as importantly — what it is not. We would rather tell you plainly that a writer is not a licensed contractor than imply expertise nobody on the team holds.

Technical material is checked against manufacturer documentation and published industry standards before it goes out.
