Understand Your HVAC System Before You Spend On It

Independent guides and a searchable equipment catalogue covering 18 categories of heating, ventilation and cooling — written to help you ask a contractor better questions, not to sell you a callout.

HVACPool is an information site. We do not install, service or repair equipment, and we are not a contractor referral network. Specifications are for comparison — always confirm certified ratings and have a licensed professional size and install your system.

Start With a Pillar

Everything on this site sits under one of three headings. Pick the one closest to the problem you are trying to solve.

Heating

Furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, radiant, baseboard and unit heaters. How fuel type, staging and efficiency ratings actually affect your running costs.

Explore Heating →

Ventilation

Exhaust fans, whole-house systems, HRVs, ERVs, ductwork and air cleaning. The half of HVAC that decides whether the air is fit to breathe.

Explore Ventilation →

Air Conditioning

Central air, mini-splits, window, portable, packaged and evaporative. Why the right size matters more than the biggest number on the box.

How We Work

Six things we hold ourselves to. You can hold us to them as well.

No Invented Numbers

Every specification, efficiency rating and cost range is traced to a published source. Where a figure is a typical range rather than a certified rating, we say so on the page.

Sizing Before Shopping

The most expensive HVAC mistake is buying the wrong capacity. We push Manual J load calculations relentlessly, even when it slows a purchase down.

Independent of Installers

We do not sell installations or take referral fees from contractors, so nothing here is written to steer you toward a callout you may not need.

Certified Ratings Only

We point you to the AHRI and HVI directories rather than asking you to trust a figure printed on a carton. A rating applies to a matched system, not a single unit.

Corrections Get Published

When we get something wrong we fix it and note that we did. Our editorial policy sets out how, and gives you an address to report an error to.

Safety Is Not Optional

Gas, refrigerant and electrical work belong to licensed professionals. Where a job is genuinely unsafe to attempt yourself, we say that plainly rather than hedging.

Latest Guides

Sizing, efficiency, cost and comparison guides across all three pillars.

Manufacturers & Suppliers

A reference directory of the companies that make and distribute HVAC equipment — with head office details, contact routes and what each one actually specialises in. We are not a dealer for any of them, and none of them pay to appear.

Not Sure Where to Start?

If you are stuck on a term, the glossary will unstick you. If you know roughly what you need, go straight to the catalogue.
